ASTRON @ Zwarte Cross 2025 edition

| Description: | In 2018, Joeri van Leeuwen gave a talk at the Zwarte Cross — a huge and eclectic festival full of racing, music, theatre, stunts, mud, and... science. The daily image of 24-07-2018 explains the festival very well. This year, André Gunst was invited to speak about the exciting work we do at ASTRON. Dressed for the occasion, the wonderfully diverse audience was taken on a journey more than 13 billion years back in time, as we explained how we’re searching for evidence of the Big Bang using our own LOFAR radio telescope. It was quite an adventure to present in a boiling hot circus tent, surrounded by beer-drinking festivalgoers, with a band playing just before us. The competition was fierce too — the legendary farmer rock band Normaal was performing at the same time! Still, we were happy to see that many people were curious about our story. |
