SKA meeting Poona (India)

Submitter: Jan Noordam
Description: Western ladies are keen to dress up in the traditional Indian sari if they get the chance, and rightly so. It is much rarer for gentlemen to pay a similar compliment to the local dress code, but they are all the more admired when they do. Your humble servant had the advantage of naturally looking like a rather scrutable oriental, and of being dressed, and propelled onto the stage, by Vinita Kapahi(*).

The occasion was the official dinner of the SKA conference in Poona, in november 2005.

(*) Vijay Kapahi was one of the first postdocs in Dwingeloo, in the late seventies. He later rose to the Directorship of TIFR, which operates the GMRT. He sadly died in 2003.
