Correcting phase errors to get to a nJy sky

Submitter: Oleg Smirnov
Description: These images were produced using MeqTrees to simulate and calibrate an observation. The simulated field contains two 1Jy sources and 25 extremely faint (5-10 nJy) background sources, corrupted by phase errors that vary strongly over time and frequency. The sequence shows the effect of calibrating for phase using polynomials of increasingly higher order -- essentially a higher-order extension of conventional fringe fitting.
