Description: | The 25 meter Dwingeloo Telescope used to be the largest fully steerable telescope in the world. After 50 years of frontline service, it has now been put out to pasture. Still gazing at the stars, it quietly awaits its final assignment. The VERON group is planning to use it, among other things, for bouncing radio signals off the Moon. Perhaps appropriately, the camera that took this nostalgic picture was supported by a prototype LOFAR antenna (see the shadow on the right). |
