M51, the Wirlpool galaxy

| Description: | This image was automatically generated using the experimental WSRT imaging pipeline from one of the Sauron project measurements. For more information about the Sauron project see also the Dialy Image of 13-07-2006. The image shows the M51 spiral galaxy in the upper part of the image. The two brightests sources in the image show some spoke like features which are either caused by inperfect self-calibration, or by some timeslots being more heavily flagged than others. The Spiral is at the edge of the field because it was not the actual radiosource under investigation, but even there the spiral structure is clear to see. |
