Westerbork SINGS

Submitter: Raffaella Morganti
Description: Thirtyfour famous nearby galaxies (part of the Spitzer Nearby Galaxy Survey - SINGS) have been observed at 18 and 22 cm with the WSRT to produce continuum images to complement observations from the Spitzer Infrared Space Telescope.
Because of the broad band of the WSRT, both the HI and OH main-lines of the target galaxies were within the observed band-pass and their emission could be imaged as well.
An atlas of the obtained images is presented in a paper accepted in A&A (Braun et al. http://xxx.lanl.gov/abs/astro-ph/0610114). The figure shows the radio continuum (left), optical POSS-II Red (centre) and neutral hydrogen column density (right) for two of the observed galaxies.
