New Year in the Lockman Hole

Submitter: Raffaella Morganti
Description: A small part of a large area in the region of the so-called "Lockman Hole" observed at L-band with the WSRT in mosaic mode around New Year. So far, about half of the entire area has been observed. This region has a unique multi-wavelength coverage (optical, far-IR, sum-mm, X-ray ...) and will likely be one of the early targets of LOFAR surveys. Combining the WSRT and LOFAR data will give the radio spectra needed to separate the various sub-populations which LOFAR will study.
The weakest sources that can be seen in the image are about 50 microJy, while the stronger sources are about 70-100 mJy.
