First prism for X-Shooter

| Description: | This picture shows the first of three prisms for the X-Shooter Spectrograph. It was manufactured at the optical factory of Feldmann-Wetzlar in Germany. The material is a special kind of Fused Silica with a high transmission for Near Infra Red wavelengths.
Also shown is part of the collimator of the test-setup at ASTRON, with which the apex angle of the prism can be measured with an accuracy of 1 arcsecond (1/3600th of a degree). |
