First Light X-Shooter

Submitter: Ramon Navarro
Description: This perhaps slightly boring picture is the First Light image of a laser pointer taken with the bare multiplexer (a sort of pre-engineering grade detector) in X-shooter during tests at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. X-shooter is a spectrograph for the ESO VLT, operating from UV (300 nm) to Near IR (2500 nm) in a single shot. The Dutch contribution to X-shooter is the NIR Spectrograph in collaboration with NOVA, ASTRON, UvA and RUN. The X-shooter cryostat will arrive at ASTRON in a few weeks time to be integrated with the optics later this year.
