MIRI folding flat

Submitter: Menno de Haan
Description: The picture shows a folding flat mirror in test for perpendicularity. The mirror will be used in the spectrometer in MIRI. The folding flat is manufactured out of aluminium and milled and polished entirely by ASTRON.
Achieved accuracy:

Perpendicularity: <1.39"
Flatness: 0.64 lambda @633nm (Peak to Valley)
Roughness: 1 nm (RMS)

The next step is to add a gold coating with a reflectivity of 98.5%. The coating will be done externally.

MIRI is the Mid InfraRed Instrument for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the vaunted successor of the highly successful Hubble Space Telescope.
