eVLBI around the world

Submitter: Paul Boven
Description: This sunday, well until the wee hours of monday morning, three radio telescopes in Australia were used to observe SN1987A. Data from these Australian telescopes (ATCA, Mopra and Parkes) was streamed in real-time over 3 dedicated 1Gb/s lightpaths running from each telescope all the way to Dwingeloo, where it was processed by the EVN correlator at JIVE. This setup proved quite stable and the run was so uneventful that Arpad had time to make a picture (in the dark) of the JIVE status board showing the 3 telescopes in use, to 'prove' we were really correlating data from that far away. The superimposed graph shows the transfer rates achieved, measured on the JIVE networking equipment.
