Description: | Some of you might have noticed already the metal structure on the test platform near the Dwingeloo telescope and wondered what funny telescope had been placed there: clearly not a new low cost SKA or LOFAR solution. The metal structure is part of a noise test setup for active antenna arrays. The test array will be placed inside the funnel, shielded from noise and RFI sources in order to create a 'cold' environment. And when the funnel is covered with RF absorbing material a 'hot' environment is seen by the test array. The ration between 'hot' and 'cold' will lead to the noise temperature of the array. The test set-up will be suitable for aperture and focal plane active antenna arrays. |
