Description: | This map of the LOFAR Central Core in Exloo shows how the farmland will be reshaped into a new nature reserve area, in which the antennas of the LOFAR stations are placed on slightly raised fields, surrounded by wettish areas. Each yellow rectangle will contain a Low Band station of 48 LBA pyramids, and two High Band stations with 24 HBA tiles each.
The work is now well under way. The "superterp" will be the most difficult part of the job, due to the wheather conditions. In the meantime some other core stations are already recognizable in the field. In the following weeks and months we will publish a series of aerial pictures that show the progress of the LOFAR "roll-out" operation most clearly. |
