Veder prize-giving at ASTRON

Submitter: Arnold van Ardenne
Description: The "Stichting Wetenschappelijk Radio-Fonds Veder" was founded in 1927 by Anton Veder, who was an enthousiastic radio amateur with a profound interest in radio science. The foundation aims at stimulating the development of radio science in the widest sense.

On 1st April the 2009 Veder prize-giving ceremony took place at ASTRON. A group of 18 members of the CAMRAS Foundation was honoured for their enthousiastic contributions to get the Dwingeloo telescope, after 10 years of deterioration, up and running again. The telescope can now be considered an operational landmark of the development of radio astronomy in the Netherlands for future generations. The prize was delivered by Francoise Olthof, grand-daughter of the late Anton Veder and chair of the Veder foundation.

Given the scope of this event, it was only natural to have all involved CAMRAS recipients and Vederfonds board members, their picture taken in front of the revitalized telescope. As it happened, this beautiful spring day made it even more clear that pride on the faces of the CAMRAS recipients also shone brightly!
