First fringes to the Miyun 50m radio telescope

Submitter: Jun Yang
Description: The above image shows the new Miyun 50m radio telescope. The first fringes to the largest telescope in china are detected with the JIVE software correlator on 5 August 2009! See the web: http://www.evlbi.org/tog/ftp_fringes/EY008A/index.html

The Miyun telescope is located at Bulaotun (116.9 deg E, 40.5 deg N), a little town in Miyun County. The town is ~140km away from the downtown Beijing. In view of the location, the EVN u-v coverage can be greatly optimized with the Miyun telescope.

The Miyun telescope has been equipped with a cooled S/X receiver and an UHF receiver. The telescope had been used to receive the downlink data of the China's first lunar prober Chang'E-1 and to determine its orbit over the past two years. Besides the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program, Miyun station also joins the "Meridian Project" to study the interplanetary scintillation. More information of the Miyun 50m radio telescope can be provided by Xinying ZHU (zhuxy@bao.ac.cn) .
