| Description: | Today (friday) is the last day of the XXVII General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union in Rio de Janeiro (see also the Daily Image of 6 Aug). This two-week event included meetings of the various IAU committees and working groups, as well as many scientific symposia and joint discussions. It is held every 3 years and is the main event on the astronomical meeting calendar.
At this General Assembly, we had two very nice booths (ASTRON and RadioNet FP7) in order give us some visibility. However, many organisations had similar booths, so in order to be noted, we organised a real borrel on each wednesday. Astronomers are sometimes just like normal people, so many of them were attracted by the free beer.... After a long day of meetings the beer was really appreciated! It was a great opportunity for an informal get-together and to let people know what ASTRON is doing. The beer was (of course) gone in no time!
