The start of the Building Offensive

| Description: | Recently, the ASTRON and JIVE people could have imagined that they relived something like the the Ardennes offensive in the winter of 1944-45. A kind of tank with a little commando turret surprised us by invading our forest. Afterwards it transpired that it was on a rather more peaceful mission, aimed at making soundings and measurements in the ground. Later this year, we hope to start erecting our new building on this very spot. Our (re)new(ed) home should not only offer maximal comfort inside the buildings, but it should also be esthetically integrated in this beautiful area. Part of the new plan is a more convenient conference room, and some well-equipped meeting rooms, with state-of-the-art communication facilities. A big central area will make the connection between the older buildings and the new aisle. An interesting novelty is the Control Center, which will be placed on top of the conference room, offering a complete perspective. From there, it will not only be possible to control the WSRT and LOFAR telescopes, but also the happiness and productivity of our employees. |
