Description: | That's not Mount Exaflop looming in the background! ... it's Mount Timpanogos, north of the Brigham Young University campus in Provo, Utah. Five members of the APERTIF team are attending the "International Workshop on Phased Array Antenna Systems for Radio Astronomy" in Provo, and are seen here enjoying the beautiful weather during a morning break (despite the snowy vista, the temperature is actually very mild!). During the workshop, every aspect of the APERTIF project has been presented. There are many open issues in the design, performance, and calibration of Phased Array Feeds (PAFs), and the DIGESTIF results play an important role in informing these critical decisions. After the conclusion of the workshop, this intrepid quintet is heading off to rejuvenate in the Utah wilderness, readying themselves for the return to sea level and their work building the next generation of L-band radio telescopes! |
