Mounting a big dish

| Description: | On May 22nd, the dish of the Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT) has been lifted and mounted on its final structure. The pictures show the different phases of the process. The big crane "Mammoet" has been transported from the Netherlands in pieces and re-assembled at the site. The Sardinia Radio Telescope is a 64-m dish of the INAF/Cagliari Astronomical Observatory. When the dish is completed and the panels mounted, it will have an active surface with a primary surface accuracy of about 150 μm RMS. The receivers will operate between 0.3 and 100 GHz. It will be used in single dish mode for a wide range of astronomical observations, as well as VLBI antenna for the European VLBI Network.
