Description: | The picture shows John O'Sullivan and his wife Alison after his promulgation this week to Doctor Honoris Causa by the Curtin University in Perth (Western Australia). This is only the most recent of a splurge of honours. Earlier this year he received the highly prestigious Prime Minister's Prize for Science and in 2009 he got the CSIRO Chairman's Medal. For a summary of John's achievements, see http://news.curtin.edu.au/uncategorized/curtin-honours-the-inventor-of-wifi-technology/. In addition, he is one of the very few of us who can answer the classicly irate question "If you are so smart, why aren't you rich?" with an indulgent smile. John and Alison spent seven glorious years in Dwingeloo, in the days when giants still walked the Earth. Many of us have fond memories of their stay. Since these were their formative years, we feel that we at ASTRON are fully entitled to bask in the reflection of their glory. |
