Description: | On October 6 2010 the EVN Consortium Board of Directors meeting was held at the site of the Svetloe telescope, some 2 hours drive North of St Petersburg. For several sessions the Svetloe telescope and its KVASAR companions at Badary and Zelenchukskaya have been contributing valuable, long baseline data to the EVN at all frequencies. And it was therefore timely that the directors went there and observe with their own eyes the impeccable condition of the Russian telescopes. The weather certainly helped to make a very positive impression on the directors, who can be seen to enjoy the sunshine during the lunch-time tour around the facility. In this sunny atmosphere the outstanding issues with disk shipping and purchasing recording media were quickly resolved, ensuring a proper integration of the new telescopes in the EVN family. Of course at this point the directors were not yet quite aware of the amounts of vodka they would have to absorb that evening in order to ratify the new friendship with the Russian colleagues. They certainly went out of their way to make sure EVN users will benefit from the extra sensitivity and image fidelity that these telescope will offer. |
