Description: | A few days ago, Heino Falcke received the most prestigious award in Dutch Science - the Spinoza prize. Heino, now professor in Nijmegen and also affiliated to ASTRON, received the award for his contributions to understanding AGN, black holes and astro-particle physics. In the latter case, Heino demonstrated that LOFAR could detect the radio flashes associated with incoming cosmic ray showers.
The Spinoza prize comes with a handsome reward - 2.5M€ - which can be used to support and further develop the research interests of the prize winner. Just the day after the award was announced, I was lucky enough to be in Nijmegen, and able to snap this picture of the University's tribute to Heino's fantastic achievement. |
