| In October last year, the RadioNet FP7 project was reviewed by the EC. This mid-term review was conducted by the externally appointed expert, Prof. Jon Marcaide (University of Valencia, Spain). The meeting took place at the Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre (VIRAC) Latvia.
The evaluation judged the project to be "Excellent". Further comments stated that the project had - "fully achieved its objectives and technical goals for the period and in some cases has even exceeded expectations". The images above show the team that attended the review meeting, including Prof. Marcaide. A short tour of Ventspills was made after the meeting, including a trip to the famous VIRAC telescope. The telescope is currently undergoing an upgrade of its VLBI facilities, partly supported by the RadioNet FP7 programme. The inside view of this impressive telescope will be the subject of a new AJDI. It should be noted that the hospitality of our hosts was nothing short of outstanding!
The activities of RadioNet FP7 will continue to the end of this year with the Joint Research Activities (UniBoard, APRICOT, AMSTRAR+ and ALBiUS) extended into the first half of 2012. Congratulations to all involved in the review - especially the project management team here in Dwingeloo. An excellent result was achieved that has helped secure further EC funding via RadioNet-3. RadioNet-3, coordinated by Anton Zensus (MPIfR) is expected to kick-off on 1 January 2012.
