Description: | Assembled below the venerable Dwingeloo telescope stand the members of the EVN TOG during its most recent meeting, which was hosted by JIVE on 28 January. Thirteen institutes/telescopes from eight countries (DE, ES, FI, IT, LV, NL, PL, SE) were represented. The deep blue of the crisp Dwingeloo winter sky and various other meteorological conditions that were enjoyed then contrasted significantly from the conditions along the U.S. eastern seaboard this weekend, under the influence of hurricane Irene. The resulting travel disruptions prevented many European members form personally attending the next TOG meeting, which began yesterday in Arecibo Observatory, and continued through today. However, many of these are able to participate via video-conferencing -- albeit until very late into the night in their local time. Among the topics being discueesd are aspects of EVN performance, the continuing rapid e-EVN developments, and the new digital back-ends that would provide the capability for EVN observations to exceed 1 Gb/s in total bit-rate. photo credit: Paul Boven |
