Description: | As the moon shone through the trees, and children's voices were heard from the chimney tops, the Klokhuis episode of December 5 asked "Are we alone?". That episode explained, for an audience of elementary school level, how research is done on stars, exoplanets and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.
As can be seen top right, the episode featured an explanation of spectra using an optics demonstrator conceived and built by Eddy Elswijk. Then onto listening for Aliens at WSRT; an explanation, by Joeri van Leeuwen in the control room, that the clicking sounds heard by the presenter are pulsars, and then on the largest radio telescope in the world -- LOFAR. The episode ends with a neat skit about Christiaan Huygens. As can be seen on the left, the Klokhuis website for this episode features Westerbork; as well as instructions on how to download SETI@Home, or how make an edible Solar system to scale. Bon appetit!
