Weekendschool in Groningen

| Description: | The IMC Weekendschool provides additional education to motivated youngsters from the age of 10 to 14 from low socio-economic areas. The lessons are given by professionals working in different fields. This helps the children to gain a broader view on their future prospects. At the end of last year, the students of the Weekendschool Groningen enjoyed astronomy lessons from Hugo Buddelmeijer (RUG), Roy Smits (ASTRON) and an enthusiastic team from SRON. During two Sundays, the children were treated to a planetarium show, space-exploration and a lot of fun physics. As a `splashing' ending, the kids launched their self-made water-powered rockets into the air and watched as the parachutes opened, carrying the cargo safely (sometimes anyway) down to the planet.
