The ring beam support of the FAST

Submitter: Wim Brouw
Description: The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), being built by the National Astronomical Observatories of Chinese Academy of Sciences(NAOC) is growing rapidly in the Dawodang valley in the KARST area of China. The foundations for the supporting towers of the ring beam that has to support the cables on which the adjustable surface rests are almost all in place, as are most of the support towers.

In the picture Professor Nan, Chief Scientist and Chief Engineer of the FAST project, who worked and studied for 2 years in the 1970s at ASTRON, is seen overlooking the development.
