Extended radio AGN at 3-GHz VLA-COSMOS (Vardoulaki et al. 2019)

Submitter: Dr. Eleni Vardoulaki
Description: Extended radio AGN are often found to have many different radio structures, what one would characterise as a radio galaxy zoo. Motivated by the apparent differences in the radio structure seen in extended FR-type AGN, we investigate the relation of their structure to their physical properties (luminosity, size, accretion ratio) and to the large-scale (kpc/Mpc) environment. Our sample is drawn from the 3GHz VLA-COSMOS Large Project (Smolčić et al. 2017a) which surveyed the COSMOS field at a resolution of 0.75 arcsec down to 10uJy and a median sensitivity of 2.3uJy. We find a wide distribution of properties for our FR-type radio sources and a mixture of populations, but in general an agreement to literature regarding the FRI-FRII division reported in brighter samples of radio sources. Furthermore, we characterise the hosts associated with the FR objects in our sample and find that these lie mainly in the green valley of star-forming galaxies and the red-and-read region of the SFR-M* parameter space. We investigate the possibility of these objects quenching their hosts by studying their star-formation histories. By studying how disturbed/bent the structure of FR objects is, we provide a tool to identify groups with halo masses not probed by current X-ray observations in COSMOS (Vardoulaki et al. 2019). Finally, I will give an outlook for future research on the interrelation of FRs and their large-scale environment (groups, cosmic web).
