CNC-milling a corrugated horn antenna

| Description: | Today, a mechanical build worth sharing. Last month we were challenged by TU/e student Sjoerd Aker with a classic antenna design, a corrugated horn antenna or feed. Our manufacturing approach however, was less obvious. Starting off with a 75kg chump of aluminum, our CNC station reduced this to approximately 5% of its initial weight. After some additional lathing, milling and hand laboring the additional parts such as semi-rigid cables, connectors, an orthomode transducer, 2-component resin and mounting, we received the satisfying message from the TU Eindhoven anechoic chamber that measurements succeeded! |
