"Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike"

Submitter: Arno Schoenmakers (and fellow cyclists)
Description: When you work in such an interesting and beautifully situated place like ASTRON, right on the edge of a most unique national park, why would you even consider to skip an opportunity to enjoy the surroundings during a nice, quiet, sunny autumn morning? Get out of your cars, all of you, and take your bike! Even if you go halfway, only, or for the last few kilometers across the moor or through the forests of the National Park Dwingelderveld!

Fortunately, there are colleagues at ASTRON that feel like I do, and decided to join the national 'cycle-to-work' day on Thursday September 16th. This day, organized yearly around this time, has been set up to promote biking to your work. Participants can register and win prizes, and are invited to donate the monetary savings of not commuting with your car this day to a foundation that aims to provide families in Uganda with bikes. You can visit the website for more information: https://www.fietsnaarjewerkdag.nl/

Due to covid, you are not required to go to the office, but you can also cycle a tour of the same distance as your commute would normally be, near the place where you live.

Several colleagues at ASTRON decided to take up the challenge and ride their bikes this day. It was a nice autumn morning, as the pictures show. Unfortunately, we have not been able to register how many of us participated, but at least some pictures have been taken as proof of participation this morning.

We hope that next year many more of you will enjoy a refreshing and healthy way to commute so that this may become the new 'normal' for all of us!

And the quote in the title? Made by John F. Kennedy, former US president, who put the US on course of landing a man on the moon. Just saying...!
