Special astrolunch: Illustrating the Universe

Submitter: Harish Vedantham
Description: All of us have been enthralled by telescope images of the solar surface, galaxies, and interstellar nebulae. But the vast majority of astrophysical phenomena are revealed to us in one-dimensional spectra, time-series, and monotone point-like images of sources (the poor pulsar astronomers!).

This week's Astroluch speaker, Danielle Futselaar, breathes life into such phenomena with her artistic impressions. Some of us have worked with Danielle to add colour to our discoveries not just for public consumption but also for us to gain intuition into the workings of exotic astrophysical sources. Danielle's artistic illustrations have adorned the cover page of magazines such as Nature and the American Scientist.

Danielle will give her talk "Illustrating the Universe" starting at 12:30 PM today in the Hooghoudt zaal. All are invited to attend and interact.
