The new Telescope Manager and Specification System for LOFAR

Submitter: Sander ter Veen
Description: The new Telescope Manager Specification System (TMSS) for LOFAR is a replacement of the current applications for specifying and scheduling the LOFAR observations. It is an update to modern technology with the main goals to improve usability, automatisation and expandability of running the LOFAR observations. Development started in 2020 and is now near the delivery of a full system.

TMSS has been running production observations alongside the current system for a few projects as of April 25th. The various components, such as the specification spreadsheet system, schedule views, dynamic scheduling and a quality assessment workflow have now been implemented. Various components are still undergoing commissioning and debugging before TMSS is considered fully operational and able to handle the full cycle.

With TMSS we will have the flexibility to again expand the system to connect the LOFAR2 stations, other Telescope Manager systems, decrease the operational load and run the future LOFAR2 large surveys.

TMSS will be demonstrated today (15/12) at the Auditorium at 15:30 by the team and the users.
