Description: | From 30 January to 1 February, partners from across Europe converged on the offices of the EGI Foundation in Amsterdam for the kick-off event of the SPECTRUM Project. SPECTRUM is an EC-funded effort that, over the next couple of years, will bring together the high-energy physics and radio astronomy communities together with e-infrastructure providers to formulate a strategy for building a European compute and data continuum — effectively, a unified way for accessing the scale of data processing and storage that is necessary to make projects like LOFAR2.0 and the SKA successful. During the kick-off meeting, representatives from all nine project partners, including three members of ASTRON staff, discussed the plan of work and timelines. Crucially, a project like SPECTRUM can't succeed without deep engagement with the scientific and technical communities, so we discussed forming communities of practice to provide a forum by which community experts will bring their knowledge and provide their feedback on our plans.
