Colloquium: Fast radio burst and Magnetar observations at Astropeiler Stockert

Submitter: Wolfgang Herrmann
Description: The Astropeiler Stockert is a 25-m radio telescope completely operated by amateurs. It is an unusual thing that an instrument of that size is maintained and operated on a volunteer basis. The talk will address how that was made possible and what the specific challenges are. Today, one of the main usages of the instrument are long term observations of magnetars and fast radio bursts. The observation programs are introduced and an overview is given on the results achieved so far. Since science education is one of the goals of the Astropeiler organization, the outreach and education programs are briefly addressed. Finally, an outlook is given on the intentions and challenges lying ahead.
