MICADO pupilwheel mechanism - warm tests

Submitter: Annemieke Janssen
Description: The MICADO team at NOVA has assembled and warm tested their first mechanism for MICADO: the pupil wheel mechanism. The pupilwheel contains 18 positions for filters, Lyot stops, a vektor APP, and several other masks. Warm verification of the mechanism has finished successfully. The Pupil Wheel Mechanism has now been sent to Max Planck Institute in Garching near Munich, where a large cryostat is available to test the mechanism at the operational temperature of 82 Kelvin.

The pictures show the pupil wheel in its basering with all the cabling, and the closing of the basering with a cover. The large diameter of 1.4 meter makes the PWM a challenging subsystem, both technically and logistically.

After cold verification of the pupil wheel mechanism, NOVA will assemble and test two other mechanisms for MICADO: the filterwheel mechanism and the Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector. Delivery of these subsystems is planned for the 2nd half of 2025.
