| Description: | Yesterday, the Science Advisory Committee (SAC) visited ASTRON to meet for the first time with the ASTRON MT. The SAC has been appointed by the ASTRON board at the suggestion of the General Director and advises the ASTRON management on all aspects of the institute's scientific programme.
In the picture, seven SAC members and the MT are posing in the sun around noon. Two members of the Committee are missing in this photo; after having dislocated his shoulder due to a soccer accident, dr. Huub Röttgering from the Sterrenwacht Leiden arrived later and joined the meeting around lunch time, fortunately with his shoulder perfectly in place! Prof.dr. Jacqueline van Gorkom (Columbia University) joined the meeting by telecon. The meeting continues today with a visit to the LOFAR field in Exloo. Although the field may also be suitable for a soccer game, the Committee will get a tour around it instead. Skates will be held in reserve. Their visit will be concluded by a lunch in Exloo. |
