Description: | This is NOT the result of a new Service Level Agreement between Astron and Jive, but rather an example of how far the staff members of these institutes will go to ensure the continuity of our operations. The failure last week of the cooling installation would have made a first e-VLBI test with Badary Radio Observatory (near lake Baikal) impossible. By commandeering fans from offices around the building, opening all doors, and installing two temporary cooling units in the correlator room, the temperature was brought down enough to obtain the first real-time fringes on October 21 at 32 Mbps between Badary, Torun, Jodrell Bank and Onsala. With special thanks to the JIVE operators and Alex Benjamins. |
