WSRT graces Mayor

| Description: | The Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) is featured on the chain of office of Mayor Jan Broertjes of Midden-Drenthe. Three items can be identified: a barn as a symbol for history, the radio observatory as a symbol for the present, and blades of corn and a bird symbolising the environment and nature. The waves symbolise the canal (‘Drentse Hoofdvaart’) which is running through Midden-Drenthe. ASTRON is proud that the Westerbork telescope has such a prominent place in Midden-Drenthe. Of course something like this could also be done with the LOFAR telescope. This is perhaps a nice idea for the Mayor of Borger-Odoorn..? |
