Fresh project leader AAVS is confronted with new ideas!

| Description: | The picture shows Johan Pragt, the project leader of AAVS, being confronted with a fundamental problem of SKA development: How do I get into my office? The door is blocked by a 2200x1200mm piece of plastic. The obstructing artefact is a trailer cover made out of coextruded ABS and PMMA sheet, which is shaped by a vacuum forming process. The ABS is chosen for its mechanical properties and the 0.1 mm PMMA layer is applied for UV resistance. This process looks very promising for a 2.5x2.5 meter Aperture Array housing. We congratulate Johan with overcoming this obstacle by means of a judicious combination of subtlety and brute force. His approach inspires confidence for the remainder of the project. |
