| Description: | On the 27th of May 2011, the vice-president of the Board of the University of Groningen (RuG), Professor K. Duppen, sadly passed away at his home in Kropswolde, at the age of 58. On Wednesday 18 May 2011, he was decorated "Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau", on account of his outstanding contribution to the University and society. Koos played an important role in the development of the LOFAR project - originally as director of the computing centre at the RuG, later as Director ICT Stichting LOFAR and after his appointment in the RuG CvB, as member of the LOFAR Raad van Toezicht (Oversight Council). Working almost right up to the time of his death, Koos recently told us that he saw the RuG's involvement in LOFAR as one of the Universities best investments. Koos was a good friend to ASTRON and a very nice and easy-going man. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and work with him. |
