Description: | From its very beginning, radio astronomy has shaped astronomy. Not only has it changed our view of the cosmos in the most literal way, it has also changed how astronomy is done and how it is organized. In the Dutch case, it also changed the structure of the astronomical community. In my talk I will describe several examples of how radio astronomy has provided a new impetus to Dutch astronomy at a crucial moment. This is important to understand the history of Dutch astronomy, but also to understand the role of instrumentation in modern astronomy. |
