Description: | Since the beginning of this year the AIV team is working to deliver the LOFAR2.0 stations. A lot has been done to upgrade the LOFAR stations in the Netherlands while preparing for the upgrade of the international stations. See: https://www.astron.nl/dailyimage/main.php?date=20250203 https://www.astron.nl/dailyimage/main.php?date=20250401 https://www.astron.nl/dailyimage/main.php?date=20250618 To make the progress in the rollout visible and to make everyone in the building part of the upgrade, we created the Rollout Counter. The concept is very simple; a bunch of fluffy aliens represent the LOFAR stations, each of them carries a tag that identifies a station. Then we have a pvc tube (the counter). Every time the AIV team successfully completes the verification of a LOFAR2.0 station, a stuffed alien is added to the counter. On Wednesday 20 August we inaugurated the Rollout Counter. Anneke Steenbergen and Arnold Pannenborg were the lucky colleagues chosen to drop the aliens representing stations CS032 and RS307. This was only the first step, soon you will see the counter rising as we deliver more stations to the commissioning team. Major thanks to the LOFAR2.0 team for their enthusiasm, commitment and dedication. Special thanks to Boudewijn Hut, Sjouke Kuindersma, Ellemijn Oosterhuis, and Scott Polotto for helping with the concept and realization of the Rollout Counter. |
