Data buffer nodes

The data buffer nodes are called lifs001-lifs013 and these hold a selection of data recorded on the storage cluster and copied to these systems for user access. Some processing is allowed on these systems, but users are encouraged to use the lioff offline cluster for that purpose.

The nodes are similar to the storage nodes. Each node has 1.2 Tbyte of disk space in a RAID system that is mounted as /data. The /data disks of the other lifs-systems are NFS mounted as can be seen as /lifs00x.

The systems run OpenSuSe Linux 10.1. Applications are available through /app, after setting up the environment properly (see this page for how to do that.

A selection of data is available on these systems. The selection is done by hand, and usually omits data purely written for testing purposes. However, Technical commissioning and scientific data from the catalog of observations should be available on these systems. There is no apparent ordering of data on these systems.
