Instead of the LOFAR status meeting we provide a short status update through email. — Michiel Brentjens, Harm Munk, Antonis Polatidis

LOFAR Roll-out status

The usual LOFAR roll-out status table is attached. Changes since last week:

  1. CS103 CEP connection up
  2. CS001 CEP connection up
  3. CS003 Validated

which brings the total number of validated stations to 10.

LOFAR Radio Obervatory Status
  • HW Busy Week
This week (Nov 30 - Dec 3) the cluster at the CIT-RUG is being updated. The old cluster will be phased out, and all relevant software will be moved to the new cluster.
  • Software problems
In recent weeks, SAS/MAC was found to be instable. This problem was tracked down to one of the lower layers in the software. After corrections, the problem was not seen again in the test environment. The software will be tested in the coming days on a limited number of stations before being rolled out to all stations.
  • Observation
Last weekend CygA was observed with 14 HBA stations (4 half stations, 10 full stations). After analysis we found that at least one, possibly two stations were pointing in the wrong direction.
Last week, several observations were carried out for the pulsar Busy Week scheduled for December 7-11.
General

Next week, the LOFAR PC will meet at ASTRON to review observation proposals.
